What do Navigators do?

We assist consumers with confidential telephone and virtual online enrollment services and provide public education and outreach activities at locations throughout the state and throughout our 14-county service area. Big Bend AHEC Navigators are trained and able to provide free and unbiased help to consumers as they search for health coverage options through the Marketplace, including completing eligibility and enrollment forms.

Weems Medical Center West in Apalachicola is located on the campus of Weems Memorial Hospital. The medical center offers primary care and minor emergency care services. Appointments are recommended. The Apalachicola medical office is staffed by Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).

Patients requiring medical services of a primary care provider may be seen by the medical center staff for a wide variety of conditions.

Weems Medical Center East in Carrabelle and Weems Medical Center West in Apalachicola provide primary care, family medicine, and rotating specialty care services. Specialty care services are available in Carrabelle by appointment through the specialists’ offices.

Qualified and caring professionals service both locations bringing their expertise to the Franklin County community. Services provided at both locations are:

Sliding Scale Program: Our goal is to provide quality medical services regardless of an inability to afford full pricing. Speak with our Administrative Assistant to get qualification information for our SPA (e.g. sliding scale and reduced fee) Program for the un/under insured. Patients must have proof of no income or insurance, lack of income via social services or social security, and current family expenses.

Same-day care for minor injury and illness

If you need immediate care for a non-life-threatening minor illness or injury, we offer same-day and next-day appointments. We make getting the care you need easy and convenient. 

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, go directly to the ER or dial 9-1-1. Signs or symptoms of an acute emergency may include shortness of breath, chest pain, open fracture, fainting, severe bleeding, head injury or other major trauma, one-sided weakness or numbness, loss of consciousness/fainting, severe abdominal pain, or bites or stings.
